Progress on the Global Agreement on Marine Plastic Pollution and the Future of Plastic Recycling

Plastic pollution is one of the fastest-growing environmental challenges of our time, and a growing number of countries are calling on the United Nations Environment Assembly to recommend a new global agreement on plastic pollution.  

 

At present, the global ocean is facing the serious challenge of Marine plastic waste and microplastic pollution.  Current international legal and policy frameworks are inadequate to address plastic pollution in the oceans.  Therefore, a new international mechanism for the prevention and control of global plastic pollution may be the only way to deal with Marine plastic waste in the future.  

According to the research data show that the global annual production more than 300 million tons of plastic, half of which used in the manufacture of disposable supplies, in our daily consumption, most of the garbage is recycled into the recycle bin collective processing, of course, there are many due to throw into the environment, under the action of water, at least 14 million tons of plastic flow into the ocean every year.
